Official count, 79 lakh cattle slaughtered in Apr 2009-Mar 2012 period, Maharashtra has 316 registered slaughter houses, followed by UP at 285. AP at 185. , Parliament was informed on Tuesday. In written reply to Lok Sabha, minister of state for agriculture Charan Das Mahant said that estimated number of cattle slaughtered by States/UTs stood at 24.77 lakh during 2009-10, 23.44 lakh during 2010-11 and 30.4 lakh during 2011-12. Minister informed that there were 1,482 registered slaughter houses across India at end of last fiscal. Data on unauthorised slaughter house for cattle is not available with dept since such information are not collected from States/UTs govts.
