Officially listed for transplant. This morning was difficult. physically Stacey was the best shes been in some time. But emotionally was getting tough for both of us. The ECMO had stabilized Stacey but she is pretty much stuck in ICU without new lungs. We sat quietly this morning and took some advice my sister gave me a few weeks earlier which was sometimes you live day by day and sometimes moment by moment. At that moment we were together. Stacey could talk, she was finally OKd to have clear liquids (first food or drink in a week) we decided that moment was pretty good. While earlier Stacey had been a bit down saying she didnt want to walk or do her treatments and just wanted to sleep she soon started to get that eye of the tiger Ive seen a number of times over the last month. she did her PT walking straight out of the ICU with a group of nurses, techs and therapists lugging all her monitors, pumps and machines behind her. she did her treatments even asking for her flutter valve with no one watching. A bit later her nurse Kacey and profusionist Nichole gave her a treat and washed and conditioned her hair, fixing the headband the helped secure the ECMO tubes in her neck and just helping her feel a little normal for a change. She was GLOWING, sitting in bed looking absolutely beautiful. So beautiful in fact, that when the chief transplant surgeon walked by he stopped and entered her room. He said, Wow, you look great, are you feeling better? Stacey politely answered yes and gave him a million dollar smile. He asked if she minded him taking her picture stating that they were never going to believe how good someone on ECMO could look, she agreed and again gave a perfect smile. As he was leaving he told me to hang in there as the wait for lungs hasnt been that long lately. I told him we were currently far more worried about being listed as we were still being told we had no fiscal approval he looked puzzled and a little annoyed, and said not to worry and quickly left. Having been up for about 20 hours I took this as a good sign and headed home as my sister was now with Stacey and things were winding down for the day. I got home jumped in the shower and heard my phone start to buzz. Cut the shower short and got out to a ringing phone with my sister on the other end telling me it was official. Stacey was on the list with a very high grade which pretty much means as soon as lungs arrive that are a match she will get the go ahead. Today was a good day. I love you Stacey Ruth
