Often we think about the cross of Christ in an abstract and general way. We tend to think only in terms of the sins of humanity as the reason for his atoning death. When we are confronted with the reality of our own sins each of us must admit to himself or herself - Jesus died because I rebelled against God and distorted His will for my life. To think that each of us caused great pain and sorrow to God himself is not pleasant but it is necessary if we would fully appreciate the meaning of His grace in a personal way. Then each can say the amazing reality that God loves and forgives me overwhelms me with gratitude and a desire to give Him my life.
