Ogun APC, senator trade blame over attacks A former Deputy Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun –East Senatorial District, Adegbenga Kaka, has said some members of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State are out to kill in order to realise their political ambition. He said the crisis in the state chapter of the party was heightened by the recent attacks on some members. The state chapter of the party, however, said the crisis in the party was common with mega political parties, with no exception to the APC. The state has recorded two attacks by political thugs on some members of the party. On January 9, 2014, thugs, believed to be loyal to the state government, unleashed terror on journalists and residents of Leme, Abeokuta, when they invaded the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress to stop a meeting of the members of the Harmonisation Committee. Also on Thursday, thugs attacked the Senator representing Ogun-Central Senatorial District, Gbenga Obadara, Senator Akin Odunsi (Ogun-West) and members of the House of Representatives, including Olumide Osoba (Obafemi/Owode Federal Constituency), Adekunle Adeyemi (Ifo/Ewekoro); a former governorship candidate, Remi Bakare and journalists in Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area. Obadara’s police orderly, Sergeant Sunday Akinbode, was also shot. Speaking to our correspondent on Friday, Kaka decried the politics of bitterness in the party. He said, “It was supposed to be a mere internal agreement and disagreement but with the dimension of violence, we want to dissociate ourselves totally from that kind of politics. If it is the issue of second term or control of political machinery, all that is expected to be done is mere negotiation.” Kaka alleged that the Chairman, Ewekoro local government, Dele Soluade, had prevented the meeting from holding at the first venue. “They (Obadara’s supporters) moved to another venue, they still went to attack them there. The people should judge by themselves,” the senator added. Obadara had accused the state Governor, Ibikule Amosun, of being responsible for the attack on him and his supporters, an allegation the governor had since refuted. The Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ogun State, Mr. Sola Lawal, however, said there was no crisis in the party. He said, “There is no problem with the APC in Ogun State except that for every political party, especially an evolving mega party like the APC, you’ll discover that there will always be differences of opinion. When you have that, you’ll have challenges of divergent opinions.” Lawal also criticised Obadara for jumping the gun. He queried why the lawmaker called such a meeting when most of the leaders of the APC in the state, including Amosun, were in Lagos to celebrate the birthday of the party’s Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande. Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, and a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria, Gboyega Isiaka, have called on the leadership of the ruling APC to put a stop to the reign violence in the state. Isiaka, who is also a governorship aspirant of the Labour Party, condemned the violence and appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to order security agencies to arrest the worsening security situation in Ogun. Similarly, the Publicity Secretary, Ogun State PDP, Waliu Oladipupo, in a statement on Friday, warned the APC not to plunge the state and the whole of the South-West into another round of avoidable crisis and bloodletting.
