Oh dear, The (Denis OBrien owned) Irish Independent is at it - TopicsExpress

Oh dear, The (Denis OBrien owned) Irish Independent is at it again! No surprise to see that crime journalist Paul Williams penned it. Senior gardai have also compiled a detailed intelligence report which states that the anti-water charges protests have been infiltrated by Eirigi and other anarchist groups. Lets take the lies and fantasies one at a time. 1. Did the Gardai really have to spend money on a detailed intelligence report to find out éirígí was heavily involved in the anti-Water Tax campaign? They could have saved the taxpayer some money and checked out our Facebook page! Weve hardly been keeping our role in the movement a secret. But why let the blindingly obvious get in the way of a good story about scarey, sinister republicans. So in the interest of preventing any more tax-payers money being wasted on highly expensive Garda intelligence gathering here is list of areas where éirígí activists are organising or attending Water Tax protests. We might have missed a few but if the cops check out some previous posts they can add them to their top secret file!! New Ross Crumlin Bray Galway Arklow Bluebell Carrick-on-Suir Galway Longford Lusk Dundrum Tallaght Inchicore Coolock Gorey Cabra Ballinteer Kilkenny Nenagh Cork Dublins South Inner City Wicklow Ballyfermot Dun Laoghaire Enniscorthy Wexford Drimnagh Carlow 2. éirígí have infiltrated Water Tax protests according to the Gardaí / Irish Independent. Can someone explain how exactly you infiltrate something that you have been involved in from day one? Our activists have been actively campaigning against the water tax for FOUR YEARS, the failed politics of austerity for SIX YEARS and the giveaway of Irelands natural resources (including oil, natural gas and water) for EIGHT YEARS. Literally years before Right 2 Water or many of the newer anti-Water groups were in existence we were on the ground in communities arguing against all of the austerity taxes including the Water Tax. In many of the areas éirígí activists have been centrally involved in starting their local anti-water tax groups. Again how can that be described as infiltration? If anything the anti-Water Tax movement is infiltrating éirígí. 3. Other anarchist groups - implying that éirígí is an anarchist organisation, when in fact we are socialist republicans. More tabloid journalism - why let facts get in the way... 4. They cant even get our party name right - eirigi without fadas is not the same as éirígí with fadas. Says a lot about the Irish Independents attitude to the Irish language. 5. Images of armed Gardaí and mention of alleged bomb and death threats. What has any of that got to do with éirígí - the only organisation mentioned in the article? Are people familiar with the term felon-setting? 6.Many of these people dont care about water charges, they only want to start riots in the streets and undermine the rule of law, a senior source said. This is a good one. Was this senior source in the Gardaí, the government or a voice in Paul Williams head? So this senior source has some form of mind-reading powers that allows them to determine who genuinely cares about the water issue and those who just want to start a riot. So éirígí have spend eight years distributing millions of newsletters, writing thousands of articles online, organising countless public meetings and protests because we want a riot? Weve established a political party, developed policy papers and contested elections because we want to have a go at the cops? Would it not have been more straight-forward to just have a go or start a riot? A lot of the fantasy in this article presumably relates to the events at Coolock Garda barracks two weeks ago and the Jobstown protest last weekend. So what was éirígís role in these two events. The Prime Time journalist Mark Coughlan, who was outside the Coolock barracks, wrote on the RTE website When I arrived one man who I recognised as an Eirigi member appeared to be trying to calm the situation with the help of a non-politically aligned regular of the daily protests. That doesnt really fit with the image of the éirígí in The Irish Independent, but never let the facts...... In Jobstown our area rep Scott Masterson took part in the peaceful sit-down protest that prevented Brutons car from leaving the area. And rightly so. Scott can be seen on many different videos online being manhandled and dragged by the cops, but their efforts at provocation are fruitless. He also video-recorded Bruton being transferred from one cop car to another before he was punched in the head and further assaulted on the ground by two members of the Garda riot squad. Peaceful sit-down protest and videoing - hardly the actions of someone who is only interested in rioting. Never let the facts get.... This latest piece of gutter-journalism from the Gardaí / Irish Independent is the latest in a long line that have been directed at éirígí. Youd have to wonder why a national newspaper is so obsessed with a relatively new and relatively small party. Might it have something to do with the fact that we wont be bought off or intimidated? Or something to do with the fact that we arent afraid of the cops, the political establishment or the media? Or something to do with the fact that we arent just talking about an Irish revolution, we are trying to organise one?
