Ohhh, awesome cuddles for a good 4 hours today. It was wonderful. A breast feed to start with. And being tube fed at the same time, hopefully hell realise that sucking = full tummy. We slept, we talked, we looked in each others eyes. Well I looked in his as he laid awake while I expressed. His eyes trying to work out how to focus, his hands so expressive and his mouth doing little O shapes. Pretty certain I was being told that he wanted to be where the pump was, but hed already had one try at sucking and had a full belly. Next time. Up to now, hes only ever laid awake with his eyes open when Ive put him back in the bed. It was awesome to see him have the energy to stay awake and look at me, while being in my lap, like normal babies do. So it seems like all the dirty onesies was due to the night nurse not doing them tight enough, or not pulling the frills out. No accidents today, which is great. We saw all the doctors today... The cardio surgical team came by as he has a couple of little lumps from the permanent stitches used to sew his chest cartilage back together. They wont be noticable when he gets some padding on. Then the cardiac team came by, and all the ecgs, echos, x rays etc from last week look great and show improvement in his hearts function and a reduction in its size. The technician came and removed the 24 hour halti heart monitor that he wore, and the extra 4 dots on his little chest. Funny little fellow lays quietly, fast asleep while she undoes his onesie, puts some adhesive remover on the fixamal which was on top of the dots normal stickiness. He sleeps through her peeling of the 4 sticky squats and the electrode dots. And while hes settled, I slip a thermometer under his arm... instant grizzles, every time. It is so strange, they prefer to have their foot stabbed and blood taken, anything but a thermometer under their arm. They hate it and whinge every time. Then the ward doctors, the neonatal paediatricians came by. Hes not putting on much weight and is only marginally above his birth weight, so theyre increasing the calories added to my milk in the hope that it will get him growing some more. Another great day for us both!
