Oil spill in the Hudson near Germantown Landing! I watch oil barges going up and down the river all day- now more then ever. A disaster just waiting to happen. It is just a matter of time, between the trains along the river and the oil tanks and the very dangerous crude oil that is very explosive, it is just a disaster waiting to happen. Now there has been an oil spill in the Hudson near Germantown....... This river is teaming with fish and wildlife. Shame shame shame...... And now this!!!!! 20 minutes ago · Update on Haz Mat Incident at Germantown Boat Launch - New York State Police report that on August 17 at approximately 4:50pm, troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to assist the Germantown Fire Department with a reported oil spill located in the area of the Germantown Boat Launch. Investigation reveals a boater observed a 50 foot flexible transfer pipe floating in the Hudson River with some type of unknown oil in close proximity. A state police helicopter was utilized to assist the DEC to assess the range of impact of the oil spill. Preliminary investigation reveals a transfer pipe from an unknown origin contained an unknown type of oil which spilled into the Hudson River. Area of contamination appears to be limited to approximately 300 feet along the shore line in the vicinity of the Germantown Boat Launch. The investigation is continuing.
