Ok I am probably going to catch some guff on this one but I feel someone needs to step out and start a session on Predators and their control. I see numerous photos and captions as well as dozens of post about eradicating predators, ie Coyotes, Bobcats, Fox, Raccoons, and others. Now please do not think, and for petes sake do not assume that I am a PETA supporter or tree hugger. (Well I have been known to hug a tree climbing up to my stand). But I believe that all the small and large game that God put on the earth for us to use and survive on was done the same for all the wild animals as well. Coyotes are very aggressive when it comes time to feed the young, or simply feed themselves, and most all other animals, bugs and berries are fair game. They hunt solo and in packs and do this very well and with great success. I think that they should be able to hunt and survive just as all others do, and if it means that they take down a full grown deer, or eat the strawberries from a garden so be it.. But at the same time if the numbers become that all animals, and garden growth are in trouble and seen as a food source then its time to break out the traps, Snares, and definitely the predator call and Alexander Arms rifles and bring things back to harmony, and make momma a new fir coat. To see a posted photo of a cougar, coyote, bobcat, fox, or other with a kill and imply that this animal should be taken out because it killed a game animal is really not what we as hunters are about. We are about taking what we are given, and keeping the balance in check, and this is what other hunters in the woods are doing while we are at work, play, and dreaming of the next hunt. Honestly I am a little jealous because the predator gets to hunt every day with no closed season, and never has to buy a hunting tag. :) Would I shoot a Coyote, Cougar( In Texas we call them Mountain lion), or Bobcat if I see one while I am hunting? Yep I will.. Will I go out and shoot as many as I possibly can and say I did it because they kill deer, eat quail and turkey eggs and other nope I will not. Do I go out and use a predator call and attempt to shoot them if they respond? Yep I sure do and love to, this type of hunting is one of the most effective ways to bring predator numbers back in check, with precision, and proactive results. Predators have a position in the true hunters world, and we as hunters have a responsibility to ensure that the predators are protected, and used correctly to ensure a balance in nature that we cannot achieve alone. I expect some to disagree with me on this, and heck some folks may even hit the Unlike button after they read this. But if all the predators are killed or numbers depleted to very low numbers we will see adverse effects on our game animal numbers, and mother nature will step in and take care of things with very sad results. Its an amazing renewable resource God created for us, and if we screw with it to much God has put counter measures in place to bring the bubble back to plumb.. God bless the hunter, and God bless the provider.. We need the Predators to become more tactically equipped and start applying their hunting skills on wild hogs. :) Please feel free to chime in, but please keep it clean... Have a great Sunday folks..
