Ok, Ive got tons of questions from people who wants to know the difference between bootleg, remix and mashup. I answer it based on my own experience and knowledge. Some say bootleg and remix are the same thing. No its not. When you do a bootleg you add your own melodies and beats to an already existing track. And no, its NOT a remix. Its not a remix until a record label releases it. Mashup is what it sounds like. You put one track over another track. There are different ways to produce a mashup but most DJs/producers take an acapella from one track and put it over another track. You must be able to handle the EQ well and knowing how to blend the different elements in each track.
