Ok, done, Im two days past my self imposed deadline but I finally have an objection finalized. its been a mission. To formulate it I read the municipalities Integrated Development plan (IDP) their Spatial Development Plan (SDP), their Spatial Development Framework and The Berea Urban Core Expansion Plan (the latter twice). I have also spoken to two Advocates and two Attorneys , one of whom in turn paid a town planning consultant to assist him in formulating his own objection, On this basis I have formulated my own objection. and its what Id like to share with you. After due consideration I decided that defending our own position probably holds little merit. Ie we will lose views, it wont be nice etc. etc. but that our best bet lies in attacking their position. Of course for anyone who will fall under the immediate shadow of the proposed building the above are very real considerations and should certainly form part of your argument but for anyone who is at some distance I believe the thrust of your argument should be along the lines that the proposal does NOT tally with the municipalities own vision for the area and that approval will create an unstoppable precedent and that the architect for the applicants prediction will become a reality, I met him on site yesterday and he said in five years this will all be high-rise as far as you can see, with just a few worthless hold-out houses lets prove him wrong.
