Ok, have some crazy thoughts for my hardcore music composer friends. Check this out. I was discussing with Aaron Miller Hill how flawed I thought the way we write and communicate music is. For example the use of key signatures, and non absolute values and having to transpose for different instruments. My engineering brain says A440 should always be that exact frequency, but with scores it could actually be something completely different. After he got done making fun of me, he asked what I would change and how I would fix written music. After a long conversation Aaron and I devised a system to communicate music in a more intuitive and logical form. It REALLY messes with my brain, as I have spent half my life learning how to speak and communicate in this language, but I think we may be on to something. In our system there is no keys at all, there is also no sharps or flats. We actually had to relabel all the notes to different absolute values. our system A=A B=Bflat C=B D=C and so on. The key actually looks like this A Bf B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A B C D E F G H I J K L Bare with me on this. So yes, G# is now the note L in our system. I KNOW. In our system we also denote octave with a number so A2 or D4 ETC Now Aaron came up with a way to communicate timing like this " In order to confirm length of note, when a note counts for additional beats, an (_) is added at the end of a note for each corresponding beat in which the note is held. Rests are shown by a (,) reflecting one beat of silence. To subdivide beats of notation or silence, a (/) will be placed after the respective mark for each time that specific beat length is halved. For example, what was once known as a dotted eighth note will now be shown as: D3_/ In accordance with that ruling, a sixteenth rest would be shown as follows: ,//" ok and more info on how it works. "That being said, below is "Marry had a little lamb" in what would be the KEY of C MAJOR, now D. (Note that underlining the letter as shown above signifies the melodic root of the piece (D), and the (*) below verifies the time signature.) (*)= time (_)=beat length (4)=Number of beats of given length in a measure or bar, (|)=end of measure or bar. If the time were 6/8, it would be written: *_/6. *_4 H3 F3 D3 F3| H3 H3 H3_| F3 F3 F3_| H3 K3 K3_| H3 F3 D3 F3| H3 H3 H3 H3| F3 F3 H3 F3|> ,,
