Ok here goes - Ive been given 7 (I have to say easier said than done - not sure how much I want to share :)! ). 1. I was born Alicia (pronounced A li si a) Gutierrez in Uruguay South America (a 3rd world country in so many ways). My native language is Spanish - and I learnt how to speak English at school. 2. My parents, brother and I migrated to Australia in 1971 due to political reasons (military coup) with our only possessions in 2 suitcases. 3. My first home in Australia was what is now called the Villawood Migrant Detention Centre. This is where my family learnt to assimilate to our new environment. We then moved 6 times in 4 years before settling in a new Housing Commission estate in the Western Suburbs of Sydney. 4. The area (school) I grew up in was not very multi cultural at the time - therefore I was known as Alice and hated my Parents calling me by my real name in front of my friends until I was in high school! (Id never met another Alicia until I was in year 9). 5. I never went through the boys are yucky stage. My first boyfriend was in year 1 - Dennis Ardath - we were always holding hands! Many boyfriends followed and at the age of 16 I was engaged. I married at 19, but, not to the guy who I was engaged to at 16?? At 26 I was a single mother with three young boys who gave me the strength to want something more for our future. At 28 I remarried (and have stayed that way for 18 yrs) had 2 more children (added bonus last one was a girl). My 5 are my world, my foundation, my reality check and my sleepless nights - and I wouldnt have it any other way. 6. Most of my academic accomplishments have resulted the hard way - whilst being a wife/mother/employed. I am presently completing my Masters in Business. I am driven, fiercely protective, highly emotional, and dont suffer fools gladly. 7. The last one has to be about my shoe obsession - it started with a white pair of patent leather boots (it was the 70s) they were gifted to me as a 7th birthday present from my older cousins - It was love at first sight - they were to die for - but alas they were too small - I did everything I could to squeeze my feet into those boots - I cried out with desperation and I vowed that one day I would have my white boots - I did in the early 90s! Well thats a glimpse into Alicia Gibson :)
