Ok, here is a side of me that not many people have seen. As a result of being directly lied to by a Defense Department contracting company, I was tricked into moving to Vicksburg, MS. (ALWAYS GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING, FOLKS!) Bugs, humidity, heat, floods, yuck! And this was just a few years after Hurricane Katrina dumped eight feet of muddy water in the house I had been renting in Bay St. Louis, MS, and I had sworn that I would never live down there again! However, one of the true highlights of my stay there was joining up with the Backwater band - under tragic circumstances, unfortunately, as Lannie McCann, longtime leader of the band, had just recently succumbed to cancer. His son Mark, second from left, along with (left to right) me, Tabitha Fuson, Martin Pace the Singing Sheriff, and Bob Bernard, (bass player Mario Sanchez was not present for this gig so I tried to fill in with low notes on the piano), not only invited me into their band, but Mark also made me feel like a welcome member of his family. I was a lonely, depressed Yankee living in the middle of the Deep South (if you could call that living, hehe), and instead of just ignoring it, they asked me to show up early for rehearsal so that I could share some of Graces home cooking. Their kindness, and willingness to let me share in their family life when I was a thousand miles away from everyone I knew and loved, still brings tears to my eyes as I am writing tthis. I thought about just uploading the songs with the cool piano solos, but since the entire show isnt very long I went ahead and uploaded the whole thing (maybe I shouldve left out the song with the baby screaming throughout??). Hope you enjoy...
