Ok, heres my collarbone story: the Nexus crew was mostly riding together this morning. Wed made it 17 miles into the route. Our pace line got bunched up when a car came by, and I touched my front wheel to Paul Sferratores back wheel. I went off the bike to my right and hit the ground on my right side. My helmet struck the pavement and cracked through. I scraped the hell out of myself, and of course I broke the collarbone. I laid there still while everyone attended to me. Paramedics were there in a few minutes. I mentally checked myself for injuries. I could feel all my limbs and move them. Never went unconscious. Aware of some pain at the road rash spots and also aware that when I tried to move my right arm it didnt work so well. A lot of popping and grinding, and I knew the collarbone was busted. I got strapped to a backboard, immobilized, and transported by ambulance to the local hospital. After getting checked in, the adrenaline started wearing off. Things started to hurt. They checked my vitals, determined I didnt have a broken neck, then wheeled me off for X-rays. During this process, the attending physician kept manipulating the broken bone and asking if it hurt. It never did, and she told me I had legendary pain tolerance. The X-ray techs said the same thing while they had me rolling around the table getting my X-rays done. The rest of the story is me getting back to my team, which Ill tell later.
