Ok.....lets get right at this. OREGON FIRE UPDATE: Here is your latest information on the major fires and complexes in Oregon. NEW FIRE........OREGON GULCH FIRE: Jackson and Klamath Counties, nearest to Lincoln in southeastern Jackson County. Lightning caused. Interagency command with a National Type I IMT en route to take overall command. The fire is burning in timber on a mix of privately owned and federal lands. The federal lands include BLM lands and the Cascades Siskiyou National Monument. Estimated 7000 acres plus in size, zero containment. Structures were lost to the fire yesterday. Exact number and type to be determined via walk through as conditions allow. Residents evacuated from the area last night report multiple homes were lost. Extreme plume dominated fire behavior. Complete burns of all material from the forest floor to the canopies seen. A wall of flame with fronts as high as 100 to 150 feet made a long sustained run aided greatly by winds sparked first by thunderstorms in the area, and then by customary evening winds. The fire did move over the border into California. Cal Fire reported heavy volume of fire with very active behavior through last night. Resources are still being rushed to the area in both Oregon and California. A full mix of resources are working the fire including hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers. Total personnel unknown as it is changing by the minute right now. REEVES CREEK FIRE: Josephine County, near Selma. Cause under investigation. The fire is burning on private lands and is commanded by Illinois Valley Fire and ODF. 204 acres, 76 percent contained. The fire is burning in mixed brush and timber. The terrain is a challenge for crews, and vegetation is very thick out there. The fire had minimal behavior again yesterday. They do have hose lines in all around the fire now and they are well into mop up as they are working their way into the black. Helicopters continue to attack the hottest areas of the fire perimeter. Numerous structures remain threatened by the fire, but the level 1 evacuation notice for Wildpark Lane near Selma has been dropped. Other areas along Reeves Creek Road and Lakeshore Road remain at level 1. Resources are being released from the fire and being sent to other incidents nearby. A full mix of resources are working the fire including hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopters. Total personnel - 280. BEAVER COMPLEX - INCLUDES PREVIOUSLY REPORTED SALT CREEK FIRE: Jackson County, near Evans Valley. Lightning caused. Fires burning on ODF protected lands. Fires are burning in a mix of timber and brush. This was the previous Salt Creek Fire, but with other fires in close proximity, the decision was made to create a complex of fires all being managed by one IMT. Oregon IMT II under the command of Chris Cline took command of the complex yesterday morning and established base camp at Touvelle State Park. Fire behavior yesterday was moderate in the morning...and then fairly minimal through the afternoon and evening. Fire fighters have reached the smaller fires in the complex and are making good progress on them. Access issues still plague the Salt Creek Fire. Air attack from air tankers and helicopters did a great job of limiting fire spread. Oregon Air National Guard Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters are being used to fight the fires in the complex. An Air Guard Black Hawk is on standby to be used as a medevac. They have a full resource mix allocated for the fire including hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers. Total personnel - 350 LAUNCH FIRE FINAL REPORT UNLESS SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITY OCCURS: Klamath County at Fourmile Lake. Cause is human related. An Oregon Interagency IMT II has command led by Applegate Fire District Chief Brett Fillis. 42 acres, 60 percent contained. The fire is burning in timber. Minimal fire behavior being seen. Sadly, there was a fire fighter fatality here. A fire fighter died due to injuries suffered in a fall while he was on a lunch break. Matthew Goodnature was just 21. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and co workers. Fire fighters have made excellent progress here and have the fire completely lined with scratch lines. They are working to shore up the lines and get them re enforced. Mop up has begun. The fire is burning in the Sky Lakes Wilderness so wilderness rules apply and a light touch approach is being used. Hand crews and helicopters will mop up the remaining hot spots today. Fire was down sized greatly due to accurate mapping. Transfer of command back to the local unit will happen tomorrow morning. CRATER LAKE COMPLEX - INCLUDES PREVIOUSLY REPORTED PUMICE FLAT FIRE: Klamath County inside Crater Lake National Park, Lightning caused. An Oregon Interagency IMT III has command. 32 acres total with the Pumice Flat Fire at 28 and a half acres, 75 percent containment. The fires are burning in timber. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. 16 new fires as the result of lightning on Wednesday have now created a complex of fires. Additional thunderstorms with the potential for new fire starts may develop over the area today. The fires of the complex are burning in all sections of the park. The ones closest to roads have been hit first and most of those have been lined and dealt with. Effort will move to the more remote fires today. Many of these fires are visible from the roads in the park. If visitors want to stop for pictures, please do not stop on roads. Use pullouts and overlooks to stop for pictures. There are currently helitack crews, hand crews, helicopters, air attack, and engines working the complex. Total personnel - 178. WAGNER COMPLEX: Jackson County, south of Talent and east of Applegate. Lightning caused. This is a group of 14 small fires burning on a mix of Forest Service and BLM land protected by ODF. Fires are burning mostly in timber. Minimal fire behavior seen yesterday. Most of the fires are concentrated on Wagner Butte itself. There are at least 6 fires burning on Wagner Butte from the bottom of the mountain outside Talent to the top. There are fires in close proximity to each other. If things go just right.....the fires on the upper part of the mountain could merge. In addition there are an additional five fires burning on BLM land from Anderson Butte over to Wagner Butte, and then west over to Applegate Reservoir. They are hitting the fires with hand crews, engines, and aircraft including helicopters and air tankers. The Siskiyou Rappellers helitack crew from Merlin are working on this complex especially the fires higher up on Wagner Butte. Some of the resources up here include units from Jackson County Fire District 5, Jacksonville Fire, Ashland Fire, and Medford Fire Rescue. Additional resources ordered...especially for the fires burning on Forest Service land. CAMP CREEK COMPLEX: Jackson and Klamath Counties, nearest to Butte Falls. The Camp Creek Complex is located in the vicinity of Rustler Peak. The complex has fires on both BLM and Forest Service lands. This complex has a total of 42 fires of which most are located in the Sky Lakes Wilderness. The largest fire of the complex is estimated at 7 acres and 0% contained. A Type III IMT is in command of the complex. Currently there are over 100 firefighters attached to engines, dozers and hand crews. Smoke jumpers were brought in yesterday to staff fires well back in the wilderness. They will be spike camping. Multiple helicopters are currently assigned with air tankers available as needed. Additional firefighting resources have been ordered. Lookouts and reconnaissance aircraft continue to watch for additional starts from this weeks storms. Additional thunderstorms with the potential for new fire starts may develop over the area today. HAYSTACK COMPLEX: Grant County, near John Day. Lightning caused.
