Ok peeps what say you? My response: Qualified? That is a rather broad word as are the skill sets and talents are personal trainers. Generally speaking, most “qualified” trainers, one’s that are technically savvy, lack communication skills in articulating what they have to offer as “value” to the other parties looking or interested in training and they lack social skills to cultivate and manage relationships. Both of those skill sets are absolutely essential in being “successful” as top earners. Personality: It is rather difficult to say HOW much personality is needed. Each fitness facility services a rather broad spectrum of demographics and it takes a staff of different personalities to service that spectrum. Is it Charisma? Possibly, but a trainer that is under qualified with a potent dose of charisma will create a beacon of misinformation and, quite possibly, will not be the best person representing the industry or fitness facility they are working for. Is it looks? From my experience, a trainer that is visibly “out of shape” is challenged in building their business. Members that I have met during my employment for different facilities look for trainers that “inspire” them and, unfortunately, looks are one of the many criteria that members utilize in “picking” the professional they want to work with. My thoughts on the matter are to create and cultivate technically savvy coaches that have the personality to present the value to that broad spectrum of demographics and are able to create and cultivate new and “old” relationships. I can go on and on so I’ll leave it that for now. T
