Ok, so I found out that the entire student body lined the hallways - TopicsExpress

Ok, so I found out that the entire student body lined the hallways of school yesterday for the Football Team to walk past the cheering students as they boarded the buses on their way to their first playoff game last night...which they WON!! WAY TO GO PV!!! I am all for supporting our kids and their extracurricular activities and having a great time showing spirit. But this act made me stop and think. Why do we put only the football team up on a pedestal? What about ANY other sport, mens or womens, thats headed to playoffs or the band or academic club? Those kids work just as hard! I realize this question (or thought) may spark some controversy and I TRULY mean no disrespect to football players or their families! But doing this kind of thing, including pep rallys, for only one sport seems to diminish the pride or achievements of other sports/activities. I know there isnt enough time to do this for every sport, nor do I want the fun events for the students and football players to stop. Its just a thought that ALL sports/activities deserve the support of their peers if they have a great season and are headed to playoffs/championships. There are lots of students who love and support the ice hockey team, yet the games are rarely even announced on the morning announcements and the team isnt even allowed to have a team picture in the yearbook! This is because we are technical not a school sport!?!? (Due to ice time and insurance being too expensive)... Yet football isnt expensive? And how hard is it to put their team pic in the year book??? Yet tons of fuss is planned around the football team. Let the comments begin... Lol
