Ok so Ive been silent about this for a while now but I want to post some Bible verses that will explain why I dont disagree with the Osteens method of preaching the gospel. And I invite everyone to read these in the full context of the chapters and books from whence they came. John 10:10 (NASB) 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. Jesus doesnt say that he has come so that we will always be lacking. James 1:5-6 (NASB) 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. It doesnt say let him ask of God who withholds things from his kids to teach them lessons. James 1:16-17 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. It doesnt say that every good or bad thing that happens to us is from God and we just have to accept it as his perfect will for our lives. It says every GOOD and PERFECT gift comes from God. Psalms 30:5 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. It doesnt say that joy lasts for the night and that in the morning we should get back to our solemn worship. Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Matthew 7:15-20 15 Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits. If it says we will know them by their fruits. And the verses in Galatians tell us what those fruits are then how can we think that the Osteens are false prophets. They are full of those fruits. I believe that many of the false prophets of today are the ones who peddle a false humility claiming how wrong it is to want joy or happiness and how anything you desire for yourself is sinful because we are inherently sinful. (If Jesus has delivered you, you are no longer a lowly sinner.) These false prophets do not have the fruit of the spirit. Most of them are angry, selfish, and jealous of other churches and pastors. Matthew 7:7-11 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! It doesnt say ask and maybe Ill give it to you, or seek and youll still be wandering, knock and I will refuse to open the door. God wants to give us good gifts! He loves us and wants us to be happy. Matthew 6:30-33 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Now Im not saying that you can expect to live a blessed life without seeking God FIRST in your life, but Jesus is clear that this is a PROMISE of God. That when we make him first in our lives that he will bless us. Im also not saying that these blessings always come in the form of financial blessings either. Now people may say that I am preaching a prosperity gospel but all Im doing is posting scripture. Do not confuse or twist what I am saying. Like I said, read these verses in their full context. There are tons of other verses that speak of Gods extravagant love to us I encourage you to seek them out. Through reading I pray that God will reveal his powerful love to you and that hes not mad at you. That he longs to bless you and give you the desires of your heart. I also am not leaving out sin, or the cross, or the gospel. If you havent given your life to Christ yet, that is the first step in living life abundantly. Please message me if youd like to know more about this God who loves you and wants you to live life to the fullest.
