Ok, so for everyone who wants to know What happened to Spain?! I will give you a very neutral answer. (Disclaimer, I rooted for Spain last World Cup when Italy was knocked out, cause I genuinely wanted them to win. They deserved it.) What happened is basically this. Spain had an incredible record over the past 6-8 years. When asked about what he thought about the Roja squad this year, Fabio Cannavaro said something along the lines of: Very obviously this is a very strong team who could win it again. What they need to watch out for is the loss of that fire. That fire theyve had to win needs to be maintained if they want to continue to win. They also need to be aware that the more you win, the more people want to beat you. So, simply, that fire to win was not maintained and the other teams studying how to beat them too well.
