Ok so here is the update so far. Autumn has twice today desated down to 46 which is EXTREMELY low & she was on 12 liters of straight O2 not her concentrator. She as well has been desating off & on all day to the low to high 80s but we have been able to get her back up pretty quick with those desats. I spoke to her dr & he said he feels strong its most likely a virus she is fighting because I was just sick a little over a week ago with a cold but he is hoping she is at the tail end of it. However, if she is not better in the next day or 2 or continues to get worse then he will prescribe a antibiotic bc he feels there is a secondary infection going on that will need to be treated. He did agree that she may need upsize on her trach but does not want to do it while she is fighting what is going on but rather wait to see if this is a true virus or is something more complex going on. He has upped her treatments & her cough assist treatments for now until she is better but even with that we are not getting much from the cough assist. It seems like this is mostly upper respiratory bc it seems to be a lot in her nose & mouth but I did notice tonight she had a little more in her chest then usual but her cough assist machine wasnt getting it out. We have done a trach change on her both this am & this evening & the first trach change did show some secretions, not too many though but the second was completely clean. I have given her a Valium to help calm her bc her heart rate has been elevated almost all day night & yesterday. It was the Valium I gave last night that finally got her stable so Im hoping it works tonight as well. If this dont get under control though the dr did say they will be admitting her to evaluate her in the hospital & try to get her stable again to come home. This is just so hard & so unfair. Mito is a cruel cruel disease & takes no prejudice on anyone. I hate this!!!
