Ok, so i had this thing where i was going to do the opposite of something i posted, but its just too depressing. The goal was to take a song the bugs me from todays music, and compares it to one from a while ago. Not in a way that would favor one over the other, but show that some things remain consistent. The concept was to compare two songs that had great sound, but the words were either nonsense, or not really important. From todays music, i had chosen Turn Down For What from DJ Snake featuring Lil John. At first, i thought id compare it to Epic by Faith No More. However, i decided to look at the lyrics for both songs. And thats where i ran into my first problem. Theres like, four different lines in Turn Down For What. Epic has a lot more than that. So i thought, switch the older song. I went to Sigue Sigue Sputnik first, because theyve got a lot of songs that make no sense if you just look at the lyrics. But theres a feeling there of some kind if intention. Ok, go totally surreal then. Skinny Puppy. But dammit, there was still a sense of some kind of sense. Alright, more obscure, at least half of it has to be repetitive. And then it came to me. A Screw by Swans. Okay, so theres some bit of a sense if story telling in the first bit, but after that, its just music with the same repetitive lyrics. There was only one problem. Damn near no one has ever heard of Swans. So yeah, that was my project for the day, and my failure to meet my goal. Oh yeah, hope you dont have auto play, the video is kinda seriously NSFW.
