Ok, so this article references the movie Transcendence which is very much about Artificial Intelligence. My take on the film was a bit different, it seemed to me that it was very important for there to be an ACTUAL HUMAN consciousness which could relate and empathize with HUMANS and was not a solitary or single entity spontaneously generated into reality. In the end, though some people may have taken it differently, the hybrid Johnny Depp/AI DID have the best intent and actions for the planet and was thinking of the people. SO this is one reason why IF a machine were to actually gain access to nano-technology before its complete psychological development THEN we SHOULD of course, be worried. However, imprinting human consciousness into a machine that can process like a human brain, the RIGHT consciousness, would be safer because a human being trained in what to do and already with understanding of our human world would be capable of doing whats NECESSARY without going over the top. [Spoiler Alert] In the film, they reveal that they uploaded a monkey FIRST and were talking about how the machine was going crazy. Well....naturally, its a monkey...in a machine....it WOULD be very afraid. However, a human with that kind of power is also a very scary thing. AGAIN, the RIGHT human (Dalai Lama?) would be needed, one that could empathize but also see its emotions logically, know what absolutely needs to be done and be HIGHLY monitored and ideally with the EXISTING organic original that could also talk to itself in a sense, and regulate what its expanded mind was doing. Also, before we even ATTEMPT such a thing we need to have a MUCH better understanding of Neuroscience and conduct real scientific studies (Quantum Physics?) on the nature of consciousness and when we DO have that down, the first machine must NOT have access to the Internet, although an offline copy of the internet can be provided to it.
