Ok, so usually I don’t share personal information, however, I must share this with everyone that I can possibly reach. We all in Grand Bahama have been dealing with ridiculous electricity bills, some more than others. There are some households living without power and many struggling to pay the increasing bills. With that said, recently, my family and I decided to cut back on the amount of electricity we use. This included cutting out luxuries like using our A.C or drying at home. We decided to do this because over the summer our electricity bill continued to escalate. Now mind you, this was frustrating, however because we knew that we were burning excess electricity we did not protest this…until recently. Just for knowledge, my household consists of 3 people, including myself (we are never home!). Our electricity bill for the month of August was over $1000.00. This was extremely baffling seeing that we traveled a lot during this month. The month before that, it was a bit over $800…and the month before, a bit over $700 (there’s a pattern here). The bill kept escalating, while we kept reducing our power consumption (CONFUSING). Once I realized the pattern, I told my aunt that there is definitely a problem. Sure enough, there was! Apparently, our meter was not turned back after its reading! Nonetheless, our bill kept rising. To my fellow Grand Bahamians, I bid you all to educate yourselves. DO NOT SETTLE for something that you know may be incorrect. With the cost of living continually rising and salaries not doing the same, HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE?! By reading your own meter, you would be able to predict exactly how much you would have to spend on electricity. Information on how to do this is provided on the ‘power company’s site’ (not one to call out names). We must all be more cognizant of what is happening in our community. If not, we all will be robbed blind!
