Okay- So you have seen all fracking stuff going around Facebook, and now you are either concerned, confused or ambivalent. Like with the commercials for shelter pets or starving children, many of us respond to to things like this by becoming desensitized; even if we are supportive and sympathetic to the cause, we start skimming past the posts (or commercials) just to avoid feeling emotionally manipulated. I think that happens because we feel helpless to make a real difference in something so formidable. In regards to the impending industrialization of St Tammany, I am frequently asked by people Ive spoken with what can I do?, and here is my answer: In my opinion, we dont need more Protestors or Preachy-ness, we dont need people to fight, we dont need soldiers for the cause - instead, we just need people to become Awareness Ambassadors and compassionate neighbors. I believe if we all do that, the momentum will take care of itself. If you want to know how to do that effectively, and would like to make some real headway with people, consider listening to this 10 minute talk. It is all valuable, but I found real wisdom pearls at 2:44 & 7:20 and at 10:05 he says something I base my whole theory on.
