Okay, I am so happy about this, I just had to share! When Patrick had his bout of night terrors for about 3 weeks in mid-September, Danny and I worried that his brain was under-stimulated at home, and thus creating things to be fixated on, and anxieties to give it something to do. Even though we cover a lot of ground with our school work, he does often complain that hes bored, so we decided to see the pediatrician to discuss his problems and have him cleared to start Kindergarten. I wrote to the school principal and notified her of our situation, and requested a meeting to discuss how a transition into public school might work. I also provided a brief summary of the work weve done with Patrick up until this point, and his abilities at the Kindergarten level. Of course, Ive been worried sick(!!) about this decision since I made it, and second-guessing myself. I was dreading hearing back from the principal, and how our day-to-day lives were going to suddenly change once this transition took place. And of course, guilt! guilt! guilt! about possibly making the wrong decision for Patrick, which had the strong possibility of making his anxiety worse. (Note: the night terrors and anxieties have passed, and not something were currently having to deal with - knock on wood). Well, the principal called me back this evening, and was a terrifically friendly and wonderful woman (thank goodness! Last years principal did not impress me in the least)! She told me that my letter had impressed her so much with my caring about what decision to make for Patrick, and my list of efforts weve made towards his education. She said she was so impressed by it, she showed it to the other teachers and they discussed our situation. The bottom line: They DONT WANT PATRICK at their school!
