Okay. I broke my rule and saw Wolf Of Wall Street. Is it a great film? Yes. Does Scorcese get you to sympathize with the protagonist? Yes. Is there a theme to the narrative? Yes. But after seeing this movie I still have a huge problem with it. Why do you ask? For all of the reasons stated above. While the movie does show Bellfort getting his just desserts, for about 90 percent of the movie I found myself the single 32 year old male in me saying to myself. man this guy had it all. Essentially this movie glorifies the exploits of the bankers who ultimately crashed our economy just a few short years ago. It doesnt make me NOT want to go into banking lets put it that way. Scorcese is a master filmmaker and that is the problem, he has unwittingly crafted a piece of propaganda for the big banks. It is really too soon after 08 to be putting out a movie like this based on a true story. The theme is get it, get it fast and get out of the way. The acting is top notch, and this is probably a hugely irresponsible move on Scorceses part to put this movie out when we are still reeling form the effects of people of Bellforts ilk.
