Okay, I never do TBT pictures...so here ya go ;) *Me in one of my favorite places, up a tree of course, about 3 yrs old I think. *My Grandmother, Grandfather, my Uncle Herb, my big brother Dale Shores, myself, and Sammy the dog, in front of the old store in Bradwood, Oregon. *My brother and I used to make lil towns out of sticks, moss for the roofs, if you look closely you can see the lil town we made in the sand. The house in the background was my grandparents house. My grandfather was care taker of this old almost deserted mill town where I spent most of my young childhood. Once when the town of Bradwood and the surrounding areas lost power (Im guessing in the 60s-70s) for an extended period of time, my Grandfather fired up the ol mill boiler by burning hog fuel and he generated power for the residents that remained in the once thriving mill town. Grandma and I would walk Sammy the dog every night down the sidewalks made of wood. The town of Bradwood had the most street lights per capita in the U.S.. To this day every time I see that certain yellow hue from an old street light, it takes me back to those nights. The nights when grandma and I would walk Sammy down those wooden sidewalks, listening to the frogs and crickets that were singing. They were happy as could be, and so was I. My grandmother and I used to go for walks and collect pussy willows to bring home for me to glue on to paper. I used to glue those along with what ever things I could think of with that glue that came in a jar. The lid had a stick that went down into the jar...yeah, Im oldschool like that. Bradwood was right on the Columbia, between Astoria and Clatskanie, Oregon. There was a waterfall near by that my Uncle Herb and I used to hike to (maybe why I love waterfalls SO much). Wed get out our trusty walking sticks and head out to the waterfall for the next adventure to unfold, across the railroad tracks wed go. We used to run our go carts up and down the road in Bradwood like we owned it, because really we sorta did. There were only three households that I can remember, still living in Bradwood so we had the town to ourselves. =) It was the life. We didnt have an excess of money, however my memories of this time far out ways the money we didnt have. Most of My most cherished childhood memories are from that empty town. Making pickles with grandma, while my mom and grandpa went out salmon fishing. . . I miss those days. I really miss my grandparents. ;( Three households remained from what once was a booming mill town on the Columbia river. The Pucketts (my grandparents), The Nicholas and the sweetest lady named Mammy Joe ( I loved that woman). Theyre all gone now, and have been for decades. Bradwood was later purchased and then demolished...down to the wooden sidewalks. Its like it never existed, but not to me. I will always remember all the fun times we had and the memories made there in the town of Bradwood. Thanks for all the wonderful memories Grandma and Grandpa. Bradwood was my favorite part of growing up.
