During an outage: •Turn off or disconnect appliances, equipment or electronics. Momentary surges can damage equipment such as computers and motors in appliances. Leave one light on to know when the power returns. •Never use candles for emergency lighting, use flashlights. Have fresh batteries on hand. •Use generators safely. If you have a portable generator, only run it outdoors with adequate ventilation. Never use a generator indoors or in attached garages. The exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide which can be deadly if inhaled. •Avoid opening the refrigerator/freezer. This keeps food as fresh as possible. Add ice to prolong the items. Check carefully for signs of spoilage.
