Okay. Im going to borrow one of the very long comments from the original video because it sums up almost all of the issues with this guys argument. 1. evolution is not science because it was never observed Actually, evolution HAS been observed, both in the lab and in the wild. Foxes being domesticated, bugs becoming resistant to pesticides, polydactyl cats, etc. And, besides that, evolution doesnt need to be observed *directly* for us to have ample evidence that evolution actually occurs. Science requires observable evidence, yes. This evidence could be fossil records, which dont show us in real time the evolution of a species, but rather show us what a species evolved from a long time ago. 2. thats why its not science, thats why its called the THEORY of evolution The word theory is not used the same way in the scientific community as it is used in everyday communication. A theory in science is something that has a LOT of evidence to back it up and is in general not contested. Evolution, while technically a theory, is considered a fact by the scientific community. Gravity is also a theory, but Ive never met a Christian that uses this its only a theory argument for gravity. Jump off a building and test it; youll lose. 3. one mans theory Well yes, one man came up with the original idea, which was at the time a hypothesis, not a theory. Then there was heaps of evidence and it became a theory, and the scientific community as a whole adopted it. So not really. 4. let me show you how much faith it takes to believe in evolution Nice invocation of the word faith. The difference between faith in science and faith in religion is that faith in science is based on an understanding of the scientific method and of the evidence presented in order to call something a theory. Religious faith, arguably, is blind. If you dont like the word blind, it is at the very least on extremely shaky ground and is highly self-contradicting. There is no empirical evidence for the existence of a god. 5. accidental cosmic bang The use of the word accidental is misleading. There was no conscious mind that set it in motion. 6. that created one cell and out of that one cell Well, no. The bang created the matter and energy which eventually lumped together and formed galaxies and solar systems and planets and all of that, and then planets had chemicals and those chemicals eventually created a cell which eventually became life. It was a very, very LONG and complex process which can be better explained by a science teacher and which Im sure this guy has never had fully explained to him because his total lack of education in science is astonishing. 7. mysteriously and magically all developed different wills and characteristics Well yes there is diversity in thought, it really fits in with evolution because we need genetic variation (not to mention the differences that come out of personal experience) in order to survive. This is all genetics, not magic. 8. chaos can never produce order Not exactly sure where this guy is going here, but the definitions all seem pretty loose so Ill just go ahead and refer him to some education on the big bang theory. When the big bang happened, there was a hot soup of matter and energy, popping in and out of existence, transforming from one into the other, and yes there was chaos but it all eventually calmed down. I dont know why he thinks its impossible for this to have happened (someone help me out with this one?) BUT when things started to settle down gravity and other laws of physics did there work and stars were formed, galaxies were formed, planets formed, stars died and were reborn, their guts were strewn across the universe giving birth to elements that didnt exist yet and yes eventually we fell into a system that seems like clockwork. But over the course of a human life we will see little if any change in this system because a human life is NOTHING compared to a cosmic scale and it will become disorganized again. Our sun will eventually die and all life will go extinct and either the Big Rip or the Big Crunch or something of that nature will happen because this clockwork were experiencing is not sustainable forever. 9. The tornado producing a perfect car argument is just stupid. Its not the same thing. The big bang explains how the chaos eventually produced order. Like I said, it started out chaotically but once the matter and energy was produced it just took time for the laws of physics to take the raw material of the universe and make it into more complex things. The tornado thing is not possible because thats a far more complex process that requires something very statistically unlikely to occur - this is not comparable to the events of the big bang. Again, cant give this guy an entire education on science all at once. 10. in this accident came this perfectly working earth Actually the Earth is far from perfect dude. And even if it seems highly unlikely, the universe is so huge that even things which seem unlikely are practically bound to happen. Neil deGrasse Tyson has said some interesting stuff about this, check out Star Talk or something. 11. it had to be by intelligent design alright let me ask you something then, how did your intelligent being get here to create us? If things which are so perfect must be created, who created your God? This is a paradoxical belief because if you take that argument far enough you realize that the only possibility is that in order for anything to exist, something must have come from nothing. The big bang has that answer, no God involved. Not to mention, your God is way more complex than the foundations of the universe. So we must produce simplicity from more complexity? Doesnt work. 12. I believe in God because Ive experienced him Anyone can claim that, that is not proof. I can claim Ive experienced the flying spaghetti monster but you still wont believe in the flying spaghetti monster. Placebo. 13. Universe, one single spoken statement. Actually, yes uni means one and that plays into it, but verse comes from the Latin versus meaning turned, the term universe means combined into one, whole. A simple google would tell you that. Oh wait, you dont believe in proof.
