Okay, Im going to go off topic here for a minute. Locally there - TopicsExpress

Okay, Im going to go off topic here for a minute. Locally there are legislators wanting to ban and make a primary offense, ANY sort of distraction while driving including even dialing a phone number. Local idiot, I mean senator Margaret Dayton made the following comment: Anything that distracts you while driving, should be against the law Well, I sent her this letter on her Facebook page: See if it lands me in jail or something. In response to your comment Anything that distracts you while driving, should be against the law Well, lets expand that thought/comment: Might as well ban ALL distractions, such as: passengers in cars, radios, billboards, flashing signs, wavy arm guys, those super annoying people dressed up in costumes like the statue of liberty, marked police cars, unmarked police cars, taxi cabs, horse and buggies, bumper stickers, broken intersection lights, sign holders, sign spinners, advertisements in front of businesses, pedestrians, birds, dogs, cats, homeless people, panhandlers, trees, flowers, bicyclists, motorcycles, clouds, sunlight, moonlight, blinkers, speed traps, stop signs, yield signs, speed limit signs, exit signs, light poles, overpass signs, lane markers, wire barriers, squirrels, owls, snakes, skateboarders, unicyclists wrist watches, pagers, rear view mirrors, power driver seats, memory seats, seat belts, speedometers, tachometers, other motorists, blinkers, backup lights, books, e-books, pens, pencils, toothpicks, floss, water bottles, soda pop bottles, cookies, brownies, drive through restaurants, eating, talking, drinking, farting, moving your head the wrong direction, zigging instead of zagging, zagging instead of zigging. Get the idea? Yes, most everything in this list is ridiculous, but so is trying to legislate EVERY potential action, or item as unsafe. We as a society are so obsessed with protecting ourselves from...ourselves, that were legislating the most mundane things as illegal. This idiotic trajectory will evolve to what? Federal mandates that you cant leave your home because leaving your home (if you can afford on that is) is deemed unsafe, and you have to stay there. When do we as a people say ENOUGH with the There OUGHT TO BE A LAW!!!111!!eleven!!one!!1 mentality? I mean really.....life in inherently dangerous. Just getting up out of bed, you can slip and fall and bash your head into a sharp corner. Do we ban that too? Think about that for a second. You do realize that ANYTHING and practically EVERYTHING could be a potential distraction, I mean even your low fuel warning, it takes milliseconds for your eyes to become distracted even for a few milliseconds, please consider the broad reaching effects of this type of legislation where how the law could be enforced, this would literally give police to pull you over as a primary offense, anything (using YOUR verbiage) deemed a distraction, and subject to prosecution. How would you like to be cited for being distracted when all you did was talk to the person sitting next to you, or behind you in the car? Think it cant happen, can you guarantee that? Didnt think so. Take care.
