Okay. Revised review on The Monsters Ball. I will start with the positive. In my opinion, the acting in it was good, but the movie felt more like a rough draft than a finished project. There is no history, no backstory. A black man is on death row...being treated pretty decent for someone facing his sentence. This man seems pretty calm, sincere, respectful, etc. But the movie doesnt even give a clue to the crime that put him there. His last visit from the outside world is his wife and young son. Next, the condemned spends his last bit of time sketching and having a cigarette. They dont let him make that last call to his son...While, back at home, the little boy seems to be overeating which his mom, Leticia (played by Halle Berry) flips out about it and scolds him by slapping him around the house a little a bit and then makes him get on the scale. By chance, Leticia and Hank meet, but at first they did not know their connection to each other. They hit off really well, despite Hanks fathers racist attitude. Hank moves his dad into an assisted living facility (or nursing home), moves Leticia into the house (I think Hanks sons old room) I just feel the characters need more background story. Has anyone else seen the movie, The Monsters Ball? Thoughts?
