Okay, day four of the I am thankful challenge, and this one may take a while... 1.) I am thankful to my parents for teaching me the ability to read and to write. I love reading books, I try to read as much as I can each month and year; at one point, I had 29 books I bought, but hadnt even read for about 5 years. I suppose I collect more than I actually read. I enjoy going out and picking up a new book, or finding a new book by a lesser known or brand new author. Ive never read the popular books (Harry Potter, Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, etc...) but I always love finding and reading any book by any author. Reading is the reason I fell in love with the idea of being a writer; each day I have more than at least 5 stories at a time running through my mind, and sometimes I can pick up a pen and write out a story that takes up half of a notebook! I adore reading and being able to lose myself in a story, the ability to go on a trip to a faraway place, and the joy of falling in love with the characters. One of my favorite authors is James Patterson and I seriously recommend people read his Maximum Ride, Daniel X, Witch and Wizard, and the Confessions of a Murder Suspect series! They are fantastic, wonderful, funny, sweet, and smart characters and books (for all ages)! 2.) I am thankful to my parents, once again, for taking me all over the country for vacations, family trips, or just for fun. Ohio, Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and road trips throughout West Virginia. I am afraid of the ocean, but I enjoy going and standing on the sand to watch the waves or watch a storm roll in. I love going to the big cities, to the amusement parks, the oceans or the lakes, seeing the shows or staying at the hotel to swim in the pool, going to the local mall or the local main street filled with antique stores that hold a century of stories. Even the way we traveled is a blast! Car trips with jokes, stories, and singing or even when I was little, and I got to ride a plane to New York. Also, being able to take friends on a few trips made the adventure even more fun! I love watching TV and giggling, or staying up late just to talk. Each trip holds wonderful memories that I am forever grateful to be able to have. 3.) This last one, is me being thankful to myself. Can I do that during this challenge? When I was 9 years old, I fell in love with Japan and its culture, food, anime, manga, music, history, fashion, and much more. I went to my first convention in 2009 (I think), and had the time of my life watching anime and seeing all the different costumes. In 2011, I fell in love with South Korea; and of course, their music, food, culture, history, fashion, KPop, and much more. When growing up in a house where no one likes the same things you do, its kind of hard to continue liking them. Especially with the repeated question, you dont even know what theyre saying, how can you like theyre stuff? (paraphrased of course)... At one point, I didnt think I liked them at all anymore, until I listened to the music again, watched more anime, and learned more about both countries. And at one point in my life, my self-esteem and courage kicked in and my mind screamed: who gives a damn what anyone else thinks?!... So I didnt give anything. I voice my opinion more, I speak up more, I have faith in what I like, and I am proud to stick up for myself. No, I dont think Ive drastically changed myself, but I do think I have become a stronger, smarter, more confident woman thanks to my mother, my grandmother, my friends, and myself.
