Okay, its time to officially announce that the old Destination - TopicsExpress

Okay, its time to officially announce that the old Destination Brevard website is gone forever and that Destination 2.0 is up and running albeit with a bit of work still being done behind the scenes to make it fully functional but we wanted to get it launched so that the old event calendar would go away for good and the new one would be easily available. So lets take a looks at some of the things youre going to find on the new Destination Brevard website. First, the website is built around the small business directory (as in locally owned businesses), dining guide and event calendar. For the business directory our goal is to have a limited amount of of locally owned business listed per category but for now we felt like a business directory with only a few businesses isnt really doing anyone any good so there you go. The members of the Buy Brevard Now Small Business Directory that have been with us and new ones that come on board will be listed at the top of any category that is searched and their listings will be more comprehensive. Eventually we will be comfortable with the amount of members we have in the directory and they will be the only ones listed but until we have had enough members join to keep it a viable option for finding locally owned businesses well keep everyone on there. Now theres just no way to list every single locally owned business in the county so bear with us while we fill up what is going to be a very special directory focused on getting our visitors and fans to shop at our wonderful locally owned businesses right here in Brevard County. The Dining Guide is an entirely different thought process. Weve always maintained from the creation of Destination Brevard that every single locally owned restaurant would be able to be listed in our Dining Guide for free. That doesnt change with the new dining guide. Every restaurant gets a basic listing for free because we want you to be able so see just how many great locally owned eateries we have around Brevard. Now you our fans have some homework. Wed like you to browse through the dining guide section and if weve missed any locally owned restaurant or if weve listed one thats closed wed sure like to know (and well most likely repeat this request in a much shorter post tomorrow). Restaurants can choose to upgrade their listing which will allow them to have much more information included and were working on getting that extra information up for all of the businesses that have already done so. Many of you have already seen the new event calendar and you can expect it to keep on improving including the ability to add your own events. When you click the list of events for each day you can then click on individual events to get detailed information about every single one. The rest of the website will seem pretty familiar once you get used to navigating it and well be working over the next couple weeks to update links on all of the informative pages and well be adding a whole slew of new feature articles. Were working on adding multiple social media feeds onto the homepage because we dont want any one particular social media outlet keeping you from seeing what were up to. There will be a section for photos from all over Brevard County and really theres so much more that we have working and well add new sections of the website slowly because we dont want to overwhelm everyone. One other thing that you might notice on the home page is the Breaking News ticker. Were not going to be out searching for news but if something is happening that deserves some instant attention then you might just see it there or if weve posted something on one of our social media accounts that is interesting we might post it there so that you can see it easily. And yeah theres gonna be an Destination Brevard app coming after the first of the year so that were just a click away on your phone or tablet. The most important thing though is that this website is being built for you. Without our followers and fans we couldnt keep doing this and thankfully weve been blessed with increased traffic every single month since we went online four and a half years ago (and the bump of an extra 300,000+ hits on the website last month was pretty shocking to say the least). So we really value your opinions and if theres something that youd like to see then let us know. Were always open to comments and yes criticism as well because as hard as we try we know that not everyone is going to be a fan of everything we post about and thats okay. But were never going to stop doing what we can to improve the website and what we do with our social media outlets and we hope that youll enjoy the ride! Now go check out the new Destination Brevard as the finishing touches are applied over the next few days.
