Okay, now that its Monday morning and Ive had time to digest some things, lets get some points out. IMSA officiating was excellent yesterday. No unnecessary yellow flags, waiting a while to throw them to try and let cars rejoin, and fair penalties(except the corvette/flying lizard incident). Hats off to the cleanup crews as well for clearing up accident sites in a very timely matter to allow the most green flag racing as possible. Hell, who would have thought that when Tags and Pruett wrecked with 8 minutes to go wed see the grace go green again? Regarding BoP, the problem with BoP is that once the tires are warmed up for both cars, theyre pretty damn equal, as lap times have shown. Heck, once a P2 got in front yesterday, they absolutely checked out. The nature of the beast between the two types of cars means that on short two lap sprints the DP will have the advantage simply due to the fact it can run and hide on the first half of the lap. Thats completely okay with me, I get it, strengths and weaknesses. If we didnt have the PC/P wreck coming into the boot, we had enough time for the 42 to catch the 90 and it would have been once hell of a battle to the finish. IMSA needs to let Continental design different tires for the two types of car. Im not sure if its possible to do so, but preferably a tire with the same compound, just one that can come up to temps quicker in the P2 machinery than the DP ones. Oh, and as much as I like the current setup, go back to the old ACO style pitstop, where fueling and tires are separate events. Would open up a lot more strategy deals.
