Okay so 1 year ago on Sunday 2nd September we waved Matt Andrews and Anthony King off on an adventure of a lifetime, taking the ashes of Tony Young on a cycle ride round the world in aid of Brain Tumour UK (over £6,000 raised so far). So what has happened in a year? Cancelled flights, near misses on catching flights, illness, broken equipment, lost bank cards, falls (or maybe just the one), a mini triathlon (on their day off) and all sorts of people! Good people – taking them in, giving them food, donating to their charity, helping in any way they can. Bad people (not many of them) – stole some equipment. Oh, and the occasional blog – great reading, and not forgetting the sleepless nights – that’s me not them! Now they are in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan sorting out visas for the remainder of their journey. Aren’t visas expensive? They have spent well over £500 each just to move around the world (not including their flights). Well over 12,000 miles cycled through France, Spain, Portugal, America, New Zealand(North and South Island), Australia (including the desert), Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and China(including desert and high altitude) So what have they got left? Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey and the rest of Europe! Feels like they are nearly home, but what a combination of countries to have left. Very proud of these amazing men although not sure about the beards they now wear! If you want to read more of their story, visit travellingyoung.co.uk and if that makes feel like donating then please follow the ‘justgiving’ link on the website.
