Okay, so. Movie review time. If anyone knows anything about the Catskills Mountains (New York area), youll know that theres hillbilly folk up there that never see a town with more than 1k, many who never see that. Its like the Appalachian Mountains hillbillies. Theres family lines that date back to the first arrivals in this country. Straight back in some cases. We Are What We Are is a movie based in the Catskills, filmed there, yadayadayada. Its about a family, a series of rainstorms, and the sudden death of the mother of the family while she was in town getting supplies. This leaves the father, the eldest daughter, the middle daughter, and the (maybe?) 7-8ish son. With the mother gone, the father asks his daughters to take over the gathering of food and preparation of meals. Youre thinking, okay, sounds like a boring movie if all they do is find food and live out these rainstorms, right? Yeah, youd be right, the first half of the movie is flat-out boring as hell. I dozed off. But I awoke about halfway through it, when the good stuff started and the boring stuff was getting gone. These girls dont gather food in the way that we do when we go to Walmart or Giant Eagle. They have a taste for something else, something that you cant find for sale at your local supermarket or butcher. The end of the movie makes the dullness of the first 45 minutes worth it. If you want a good freaky movie with medium gross factor, rent or d-load this one. But dont say I didnt warn you. If you dont like blood, then go watch My Little Pony.
