Okay so here is my vent - YikYak and other social media used by our kids. As a parent of teenage boys it is my responsibility to watch what they are doing and know what is going on in their lives as much as possible. Yes, I know I cant see/know everything they are doing but I do my best. They are not perfect and make mistakes just as I made mistakes as a teen and continue to make mistakes in life. I really feel that so many parents out there are either clueless or just dont give a damn what their kids are doing. Well you should. My son was involved in a car accident last night and by the grace of God, he and his friends are all okay. As a parent, this is one of the most horrifying things I have experienced - to pull up to the scene of an accident and see something like that. There are so many emotions. In this day and age there so many things for us to monitor and frankly I have a hard time keeping up. YikYak in particular allows people to post things and talk crap without people knowing who they are - basically allowing them to be cowards in my opinion. My son shared with me some of the things that were posted on this pathetic forum about the accident last night and I am DISGUSTED at the things I heard in reference to my son and the other kids involved. Absolutely sickening!!! So, parents if you dont know what is going on in your kids lives, I suggest you find out. I talk my kids to death about things and they openly talk to me now, which is a major feat for me as a parent of teen boys. This wreck last night was an accident and it could have happened to ANYONE. If you are reading this post and maybe your kids use YikYak in particular I would encourage you to monitor this. If you are reading this and you are some of the ones who posted the absolute filth that I read, I pray that you ask yourself how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot and YOU made a mistake and people were saying these things about YOU. Not so fun now is it?! Very disappointed and just sick to my stomach!!!!
