Okay, so yesterday I and a friend from the office ambled over to Firebell near Seollung station, about midway between Seollung station exit 2 and Hanti station. The Firebell people wont tell you if you get lost and call them for directions, because Koreans are shit for directions, but the stores on Seollung-no 72-gil. (Look for the blue side street marker on a post, and turn left to walk down the side street where Firebell is located.) We ended up ordering two MAC burgers, which seems to be the Firebell signature burger. They put a dollop of rather bland macaroni and cheese on top of a very well-seasoned, flavorful, and expertly-cooked 5 oz. beef patty. Frankly, its a weird and possibly stupid choice for a burger joint to make; the macaroni and cheese is dropping out of the burger nearly continuously, making a big mess in the basket and possibly on your suit, which can be laundered, or your expensive necktie, which cannot. No es bueno. I dont think I will order a MAC burger again, or wear a tie to Firebell. But the burger itself, and the bun, were quite good. I also have to praise their choice of potato, which they spell on the menu as Tornato. I think theyre imported frozen fries (rather than the dreadful domestic potatoes wholly unsuitable for chipping or frying), thick-cut in kind of a partial spiral and lightly battered with some kind of seasoned coating. Very tasty. I also thought that the staff, who may or may not be owners, although I hope they are owners, were very warm and attentive to their customers, and that counts for a lot in this day and age. Burger, fries, and a Coke (or fancy-pants can of Orangina-like soda from Europe) ran us W11,500 each. Compared to Brooklyn Burger at COEX, which is about W15,000 for the similar program (the same 5 oz. burger size, a can of Coke, and way too many fries), Firebell is a good value. Ill be back.
