Okay, this is a bit of a departure for me, so I will explain. As kids we never missed the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday nights. Since Ed always had a variety of performers, one of the classical musicians that performed was Yehudi Menuhin or as everyone nicknamed him Yehudi Menudi Fast forward to 1973 and Im working at the Toledo Museum of Art and Concert Hall and the guest artist for the symphony was an older Yehudi Menuhin. Fantastic. Fast forward again to 1996 and I have a wonderful group of kids touring Europe and we are in Vienna. We go to the Schoenbrun Palace in a bit of drizzling rain and we see under a tent awning the Vienna Philharmonic rehearsing for a summer outdoor concert. A tiny little old man is conducting. You guessed it. Yehudi Menuhin. I was floored to say the least and the girls enjoyed hearing the orchestra and choir rehearse Beethovens 9th Symphony. What I found out this morning was startling. Yehudi Menuhin loved to play the music of Bela Bartok, the great Hungarian composer. Sorry to bore all of you with this, but it was on my mind and I thought I would share. Have a great day.
