Okay, you young hipster! What the heck is al fresco ornamentation?! To me, al fresco means out-of-doors, in the open air, but Im not sure how that would apply to sung ornamentation, unless what youre hoping for is that we will locate a singer giving a concert or recital in a garden or other open-air venue. So, trusting that this is just an idiomatic was of suggesting that ornamentation is meant to fresco the wall of a plain melody, Ive chosen Philippe Jaroussky singing Verdi prati from Handels Alcina, because I think his performance gives an excellent example of how ornamentation should be changed with each verse or even repetition of a phrase.
