Okiki Oderos OPEN LETTER TO ALL KENYAN POLITICAL PARTIES. RE : PLEASE ENTRENCH ELECTORAL JUSTICE IN PARTY NOMINATIONS! The fiasco that was the TNA Nomination for member of National Assembly (Gatundu South) has left a bitter taste in mouth. This is not long after the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) treated Kenyans to a hilarious Men In Black action movie at Kisirani TNA seems to have become The National Alliance of rigging if the claims by Joyce Ngugis supporters, that she was rigged out prove true. It is high time that each political party cleaned house, and entrenched electoral justice, in all their nominations. It is highly probable, as alleged by a JUBILEE coalition MP, that the coalition has more members of parliament because the nominations were free and fair. ODM, which is an older party, is renown for bungling party nominations. LET ALL LEARN. Most of the lessons that we need to learn are FREE LESSONS. One does need to attend Harvard or Oxford University. The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy, CORD, wants to have the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) disbanded, yet one of its main partners, ODM CANNOT CONDUCT A SIMPLE PARTY ELECTION! What a shame? What a Sham? That reminds me of an American by the name of Patrick Murray who said, Any political party that includes the word democratic in its name never is. ODM should first disband its internal IEBC. The Democratic in ODM should be democratic Edmund Burke said, To govern according to the sense and agreement of the interests of the people is a great and glorious object of governance. Political parties are key institutions in national governance. THEY MUST LEAD THE WAY! George Washington, former American President, one of the founders of America, in his farewell address warned of the dangers of political parties. In part, he says, I have already intimated to you the danger of parties... Political parties must be RESTRAINED! VOTERS must not take the bungling and interference with political nominations kindly. What has recently happened in Gatundu must NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. It will ONLY happen if we allow it. Political parties are today funded by tax payers. They are funded to practice JUSTICE, not INJUSTICE. Benjamin Disraeli says, There is no act or treachery or meanness of which a political party is not capable; for in politics there is no honor. We Kenyans must demand honor! In the conduct of political parties, which parties are PUBLIC BODIES, funded at your expense, as well as mine. Article 10(1) of our constitution binds all state organs, public bodies and persons. It reads, The national values and principles of governance in this article bind all state organs, state officers, public officers and all persons... Some of those values are, democracy and participation of the people, social justice, integrity... All public persons are subject, and must be subjected to the National Values and Principles enumerated in Article 10. We must neither accept nor tolerate anything less. Abraham Lincoln says, Ballots are the rightful, peaceful, successors of bullets;... A ballot is a serious device! Ballots ought to be taken seriously! Electoral justice must be the foundation of good governance! As Martin Sheen wisely observes, Future generations are not going to ask us what political party were you in. They are going to ask what did you to about it I am therefore calling all Kenyans to resist political manipulation of party nominations. I am glad that TNA has instituted a committee to probe the Gatundu South Nominations. It is my hope that justice will be done. Further, I am calling upon both JUBILEE and CORD, as well as all other parties political to practice JUSTICE. It is my opinion that political party nominations should not be left up to the political parties. They ought to be conducted by reputable and credible electoral organs, outside the party. This is one of the needful reforms. We need to sanitize nominations. There is need to check political parties, The necessity of reciprocal checks in the exercise of political power, by dividing and distributing it into different depositories,... George Washington in his farewell address (In reference to political parties) He goes on to say (concerning political parties), ...the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it in the interest and duty of a wise people to DISCOURAGE and RESTRAIN... We ought to find a means of checking the excesses of political parties. As I have opined, above, we seem to have entrusted political parties with too much power. A power that is continually being abused. Madam registrar of political parties. Yes, the Registrar of political parties, I hope you are READING! As a person, I stand up against this kind of INJUSTICE. We are reluctant to admit that we owe our liberties to men of a type that we today hate and fear -- unruly men, disturbers of peace, men who resent and denounce what Whitman called the insolence of elected persons in a world of free men ~ Gerald W. Johnson God Bless Kenya, Kenyans, and All PARTIES POLITICAL.
