Oklahoma Shelter Work Team List: - TopicsExpress

Oklahoma Shelter Work Team List: Sunday afternoon the FoOT volunteers and the Americorps Team completed the Rock Garden Shelter marking the completion of the shelter system in Oklahoma. Holson Valley was difficult due to the material delivery down to the site and the manual site preparation. The Rock Garden presented its own challenges, which proved just as difficult. The site was 3 miles off Holson Valley Road on a single track dirt road with a very steep climb the last 3/10 of a mile. Wet & cold weather made the work site and access a muddy mess. The work team completed the shelter at 2 pm Sunday afternoon but before all the equipment was off the mountain, heavy sleet blanketed the area. If you meet anyone that worked on either of these shelters, say thanks, because they have worked hard and suffered to get the last two shelters completed. Our ten person Americorps team was composed of outstanding young people. It was having this additional help that made it possible to complete 2 shelters under these conditions. Our FoOT volunteers agreed that their assistance made the difference. As usual, the FoOT team had a lot of fun through it all. It was great adding the Americorps team to the mix. A big thanks to each volunteer. We appreciate Sarah Jones coordinating the Americorps Team. Norm Brumm continues his excellent work as our construction lead. On the Rock Garden, I would like to thank Ron Mayfield for bringing his 4 wheel drive tractor to deliver material to and from the work site. If you could see the steep grade and mud, you could appreciate how important that was. All of you, who have worked so hard can take a break from shelter work. We will be planning to construct our next shelter in March at Fiddler Creek. That shelter is funded and will be ready to build. Bo Lea FoOT President Posted by Tom
