Olanipekun lauds INEC over poll A former national president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun, on Wednesday, lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of last Saturdays governorship election in Ekiti State, saying it was a pointer to what to expect in the 2015 general election. He, however, noted that the commission should not rest on its oars, as there were still room for improvement in the processes leading to the conduct of a hitch-free election in the country. Olanipekun, who stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during the 2014 Law Week of the NBA, Akure branch, added that the country was moving towards civilised democracy. The former NBA boss also commended the Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, for accepting the decision of the people of the state on the election. According to him, the Ekiti election with the measures put in place by INEC and the conduct of the people of the state remained one of the fairest and freest in the history of election in the country. Olanipekun said I am proud of what happened. I am not talking in terms of who won and who lost but how the election was conducted I understand that it was the most peaceful and fairest of all elections in Nigeria. The turnout of the people, the orderliness and the peace, that enveloped the entire state.
