Though it was my first reaction too, I dont think this suggests that Banksys art, put onto a public market, is judged not good enough for purchase by the average joe. There are two things. One, Central Park is filled with cheap counterfeits and reprints of great works of art. Im sure most people assumed this was the case with this booth. Two, Banksy is a graffiti artist and a critic of the art world and the ownership of his work and message. Having a counterfeit reprint of his work hanging on a canvas on your wall would suggest you are the height of uncool and missing the anti-commodification theme in his work. Note that the woman bought two for her kids bedroom, where the parents could be seen as cool for introducing their kids to Banksy, whereas if they hung it in the living room...lame. So, once again, Banksy re-establishes himself as the new Warhol by constantly upending the ideas of art.
