Old Dan Tucker Born in Virginia on February 14, 1744, Reverend #DanielTucker came to Georgia to claim a land grant on the Savannah River. Tucker was a soldier in the Revolution, planter, and minister. He also owned and operated Tucker’s Ferry near his home. After his death on April 7, 1818, he was buried at ‘Point Lookout’ which is about six miles from his plantation. The slaves of his plantation composed the many verses of ‘Old Dan Tucker’ which became a popular folk song and was a favorite song at corn shuckings and other social gatherings. There are multiple versions of the song, but the most famous the one by #BruceSpringsteen on his album “We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions”. A marker identifying the site of his plantation is at at the intersection of Georgia Highway 72 and Pearl Mill Road in Elbert County.
