Old Git Cries: I Loved Rik And I Never Knew Til Now! I discovered the Comic Strip by reading Time Out & believing it. I really liked the idea of going to Raymond’s Revuebar “but not see the girls” - kinda pretentious asshole that I was. Nowadays the show might more honestly be called The Alexie Sayle Show with Very Special Guests. As MC Alexie would be on stage for ten minutes or half an hour in between The Very Special Guests: Nigel Planner, Peter Richardson, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Hugh Laurie, Stephan Fry, Someone Arnold - I fergett his name - the geezers who did the Carling Black Label commercials and an outfit called 20th Century Coyote with Ade Edmonson and Rik Mayall. They were okay. But twenty years later I got invited to Chariddy Event in London where Peter Cook and Dudley Moore scripts were murdered by modern celebreties I am far too modest to list. Except when Rik & Ade took to the stage and creamed everybody (watch the video). I always fancied myself as the Alexie Sayle character in the Young Ones. Know I know different. Well done Rik Mayall. RIP. I’ll call Echo & The Bunnyman
