Old school Navy. The carrier I was stationed on got diverted to the Mediterranean Ocean in 1981 during the first Lebanese missile crisis. The Navy brought one of these old battleships ( I want to say it was the Missouri) over there as part of our battle group. I remember when they would fire broadsides like those in these photos. There are no words. You have to see it in person to grasp the significance of such pure, raw power. I will never forget it. They were capable of putting rounds the weight of a VW Beetle 22 miles downrange. Awesome is an overused word these days and I am as guilty as anyone but thats exactly what these old warhorses were.
