Older people with the healthiest diets are about 15 percent less - TopicsExpress

Older people with the healthiest diets are about 15 percent less likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those with the least healthy diets, according to a study from the National Cancer Institute. Reuters reported Sept. 13 that the study of 50,000 people over age 50 concluded that a good diet was especially good prevention for men. Overweight or obese men who nonetheless ate a healthier diet were 28 percent less likely to get pancreatic cancer than overweight and obese men who ate the worst, for example. “It is important to note that our findings are based on overall diet and not individual foods. A combination of many foods contributed to the observed association between greater compliance with the (federal) Dietary Guidelines and lower risk of pancreatic cancer,” says lead author Hannah Arem. Pancreatic cancer is relatively rare, but survival rates are quite poor. The findings were published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
