Stewart Cook will tell us what they wore, what they ate and how they lived,fought and died in the ‘Great War for Civilisation’. You will have the opportunity to see the type of uniform they would have worn and the equipment they would have carried. At Gallery Oldham, Greaves Street, Oldham beginning at 2pm. To cover the cost of hiring the venue the following entrance charges apply: £1.50 for members, £2.50 for non-members. On Saturdays car parking is free for three hours on all municipal car parks, the nearest, Southgate Street, is accessible from Waterloo Street. Future Talks 12th October- The Day the Planes Came Down by John Fidler 9th November- Oldham on Film by Marian Hewitt of the North West Film Archive Heritage Open Days-September 13th- 15th Guided tour of Chadderton Cemetery. The cemetery opened in 1857 with plans by N G Pennington of Manchester. Features include an Anglican chapel, Gothic style gate lodge and a First World War memorial in the form of a sandstone cross. Thursday 12th September: Tour 13.30 Meet at the Castleshaw Centre, off Waterworks Road, near Delph. OL3 5LZ.
