Om Amriteswaryai Namah Amma Lives For Me “I am one of the Sannyasis of Matha Amritanandamayi Math”. This was my answer to a fellow passenger when I was travelling to Amritapuri, the train had already crossed Kottayam. The passenger, a westerner, a few seats away from me, came and sat near me. He asked me a few questions about what we do in the Ashram and I replied with a lot of enthusiasm. He then fished out a brochure from his bag, gave it to me saying “Here is a Gift from me” I looked at the brochure – “Jesus Saves” casually going through it, I gave it back to him. “Why don’t you try Jesus?” he asked. I told him, “Now look here, Gentleman, I already have a Guru,I don’t need another one!” He replied gravely, “Jesus died for you!” I told him, “ I never asked Jesus to die for me. And secondly, My Mother lives for me!” I remembered Amma saying long time back “People are ready to die for their religion, but there are very few who live for it”. I told him a few things and put him in his place. He thought it is wise not to continue the conversation. Their religion insists on compulsory worship. Therefore they are regular in their mass prayers, on Sundays and on Fridays. Naturally they get Divine Grace and we see their strength steadily increasing. One of our great Sanyasis was asked a question by them “We see the Christians going to church on Sundays and the Muslims on Fridays. Why is that the Hindus don’t have a particular day set apart for worship?” The Sanyasi replied “Hinduism is not a part time job. We are taught to remember God in every breath.” This is what our Amma also has taught us. She has also taught us to chant the LalithaSahasranamaArchana together – KotiArchanas and LakshaArchanas, let us realise their importance and let us be regular in our mass prayers and individual sadhana. Look at them, they have not seen God, they have not seen heaven nor their Guru. But they are full of enthusiasm and energy and say, “Our is the only God, our is the only Saviour! A saviour who lived two thousand years ago and whom they have never seen! But we have seen our Savior, our God, Goddess, I mean, in flesh and blood. We have experienced how our Mother Divine have transformed our lives and continue to transform the lives of millions of devotees. Remember what Jane Goodall said about Amma, ten years ago – “Amma has hugged 20 million people, just imagine 20 million! She is God’s Love in human form”. Can’t we say like that about our Divine Mother? Our Math has to give prizes to devotees to encourage them to get more Mathruvani subscriptions! We need to compete with our other sisters and brothers and get prizes to spread the Message of Our Divine Mother who wiped our tears, hugged us, transformed our lives and gave us everything! Our Divine Mother is the Universal Mother who Can, by Her mere Sankalpa attract the Countless Suns, Stars & Planets to Her! We Know this! Santh Tulsidas, in His Ramayana Calls the Saints “JangamaTheerthaRaja”. Theertharaja, the king among all holy places is Prayag, Allahabad, where the three holiest rivers Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna become one. Santh Tulsidas says “Ganga is Bhakthi, Saraswathi is Jnana and Yamuna is Karma – Prayag, Triveni is where Jnana, Bhakthi and Karma are present. This is the TheerthaRaja – King among holy places, taking bath in which one is totally purified of all his sins. But Tulsidas says Saints are Jangama ThreetaRajas – they are Moving theerthatajas we don’t have to go to them, they will come to us to purify us. But even if Amma travels all 365 days, She cannot cover all the places in the world. So it is the duty of Her children, we devotees to carry the Divine Messageto as many places, as many people as we can – talk about Amma and bring the devotees to Her – Amma LIVES for us – Let us LIVE for HER – and finally merge into HER – into Eternal Life! -Swami Amritageetananda Puri
